Global CIR and why is so important.
Committed Information Rate (CIR) is guaranteed bandwidth that is not shared by other clients on the network. It guarantees communications when the network is heavily loaded.
How much CIR do the RedKu Global plans have?
Divide the plan speeds by the contention ratios, and the result is the CIR.
The 10:1 512 x 256 plan has an inbound CIR of 51.2 kbps and an outbound CIR of 25.6 kbps. The 4:1 512 x 256 plan has an inbound CIR of 128 kbps and an outbound CIR of 64 kbps.
Red KU
Global ABS and why is so important?
To do it properly requires multiple satellites with wide geostationary separation with overlapping beams. RedKu Global network uses:
Five satellites with overlapping coverage in the America spread over 75 degrees of longitude.
Two satellites with overlapping coverage in the AOR spread over 26 degrees of longitude
Six satellites with overlapping coverage in Europe spread over 99 degrees of longitude
ABS is used to solve blockage issues, whether onboard or nearby. If you only have two satellites close together both may be blocked.
What triggers ABS?
GPS position indicates the vessel is approaching the footprint edge
Antenna azimuth (to the satellite) approaching a mapped blockage zone
Reduction of SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio)
OBM command and control ability
ABS is not instantaneous. A new option file is pushed to the modem and the iDirect modem needs to reboot.
